Northstar keeps your financial data on your device. Northstar is designed to work offline. Statement parsing, screenshot OCR, categorization, budgeting, recurring detection, and spend insights run locally on your device.

Transactions, categories, budgets, rules, backups, and local settings are stored on your device. If you enable app lock, passcode and biometric preferences are stored in platform secure storage.
Northstar does not send your financial data to Northstar servers. There is no cloud sync, no analytics, and no advertising SDK collecting your ledger activity. The Android release removes network permissions from the shipped app, so the app cannot transmit data off the device.
Northstar only accesses files or photos that you explicitly choose for import. OCR and parsing stay on-device. Imported transactions are added to your local ledger only after you confirm them.
If you choose to support Northstar through optional Apple or Google in-app
purchases (support_3, support_5, and
support_10 consumable tips), the purchase flow is handled by the
app store. Northstar only stores a local supporter flag on your device and
does not gate features behind purchases.
The app store may process payment and receipt data according to its own privacy policy. Northstar does not receive your payment card details.
Northstar does not show ads and does not use advertising identifiers.
Backups are created only when you request them. You can export, back up, restore, soft-delete, or permanently delete your local data from within the app. Uninstalling the app removes app-controlled on-device storage. Backup files you have already saved outside the app remain under your control.
Northstar is a personal finance app and is not directed at children under 13.
